“Morocco is a very important partner of the EU and we must deepen our relations after the free, democratic and transparent elections held in the Kingdom,” Mr. Kovatchev told reporters after talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita.

The Bulgarian MEP, also rapporteur for Morocco in the Foreign Affairs and International Trade Committees of the European Parliament, said he was waiting for the formation of the new government in Morocco so that the two parties could continue to strengthen the “good” relations linking them in all areas, political, economic, security and trade.

“Morocco has many friends in the European Parliament,” he added, stressing that his visit to Rabat aims, among other things, to examine ways to further deepen Moroccan-European ties and identify the challenges to be met.

Recently, Mr. Kovatchev had praised the smooth running of the triple ballot of September 8 in Morocco, highlighting, in a press release, the “transparency of the elections of September 8 and the quality of organization of this process by the Moroccan authorities, despite the context of the pandemic.”

“These elections illustrate once again the resilience of the Kingdom in the face of the health crisis, as well as the maturity of its democratic experience,” he said, insisting that “in an unstable region, it is important for the EU to continue to support Morocco as a reliable and stable partner in the region and in Africa.”
