In an interview with the news website “Madar Assaâ Al Ikhbariya”, published on Sunday, Mr. Akhrif specified that this strategic partnership concerns tangible projects covering several areas such as renewable energies, agriculture and tourism, in addition to the exchange of expertise in vocational training.

The horizons of bilateral cooperation remain “very promising”, he added, recalling that the historical bilateral relations between Jordan and Morocco, the foundations of which were laid by the late HM Hassan II and the late HM Hussein Ben Talal, were consolidated and raised to the rank of strategic partnership under the era of HM King Mohammed VI and HM King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein.

And to continue that Morocco recalls with immense pride two significant events in the history of these relations, namely Jordanian participation in the glorious Green March in 1975 and the opening of a Consulate General of the Kingdom of Jordan in Laayoune in the southern provinces, on March 4, 2021.

Mr. Akhrif also praised Jordan’s consistent position, under the leadership of HM King Abdullah II, regarding its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, noting that Jordan has continued to reaffirm this position in various regional and international forums.

Regarding the level of coordination and political consultation between the two brotherly Kingdoms, Mr. Akhrif affirmed that relations between Jordan and Morocco constitute a model to follow, both in terms of coordination and in terms of convergence of positions on issues of common interest and the region in general.

He added that the two countries are determined to consolidate this consultative approach, inherent in their relations, welcoming Jordan’s important contribution to joint Arab action.

The two countries have a legal framework of more than 120 conventions, memoranda of understanding and programs covering all areas, recalled the Moroccan diplomat, noting that the two parties are updating this framework to make it more appropriate to the developments and requirements of bilateral cooperation.

He also specified that Morocco and Jordan have an additional mechanism to strengthen their cooperation, through the High Joint Commission, chaired by the heads of government of the two countries.

For Mr. Akhrif, economic, commercial and investment cooperation remains below the aspirations and potential of the two countries, despite an attractive legal framework at the bilateral and multilateral levels for businessmen and private sector actors, urging the private sector in both countries to seize the investment opportunities offered by the two Kingdoms.

In this sense, he called for the resumption of the direct air line between Casablanca and Amman, considered essential to strengthen economic, commercial, tourist and human relations between the two countries, noting that joint efforts are underway for the reestablishment of these flights as soon as possible.
