This observation was made during a meeting, Tuesday at the headquarters of the Peruvian Congress, of the Moroccan ambassador in Lima, Amin Chaoudri, with the new president of this legislative institution, Eduardo Salhuana Cavides, in the presence of Ernesto Bustamante Donayre, in his dual capacity as president of the Morocco-Peru parliamentary friendship group, and of the support group for the Moroccan initiative for autonomy in the Sahara within the Peruvian Congress.

On this occasion, the two officials reviewed different aspects of bilateral ties, discussing ways to strengthen parliamentary relations between the two countries.

Thus, the president of the Peruvian Congress stressed the need to promote trade, which remains below the ambitions and potential of both nations.

He highlighted the interest for both countries to sign a preferential trade agreement, to boost economic exchanges.

For his part, Amin Chaoudri presented the major advances made by the Kingdom under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, highlighting the multiple significant political, economic and social reforms.

In this context, the Moroccan diplomat particularly highlighted the provisions of the new Constitution of 2011 which highlight human rights and democracy and the establishment of advanced regionalization aimed at promoting balanced development through effective decentralization of powers.

He also mentioned the substantial economic progress made by Morocco, including the establishment of a diversified and environmentally friendly economic model, stressing that the Kingdom stands out for its ambitious renewable energy projects, such as solar complexes, wind farms and seawater desalination plants, as well as promising green hydrogen projects.

The issue of Morocco’s territorial integrity was also raised by Amin Chaoudri, who provided clarification to the Peruvian official on the origins of the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.

He stressed the importance of the proposal for Moroccan autonomy over its Sahara, put on the negotiating table since 2007, and considered by the international community as the only serious, credible, pragmatic and lasting solution to achieve a definitive settlement of the question of the Moroccan Sahara.

Recalling the recent opening of consulates by several countries in the cities of Laayoune and Dakhla, the Moroccan ambassador noted that the presence of these consulates in this region consolidates the international recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara.

Similarly, the city of Dakhla will soon host the Atlantic port megaproject, which is expected to be a key infrastructure for regional and continental development, he stressed, adding that this port will open new opportunities for landlocked Sahel countries to achieve their own development, particularly through the Royal Atlantic Initiative.
