Joint Initiative Launched⁤ to Counter Violent Extremism in ‍Education

In collaboration with​ the Center of Excellence ⁤for Countering Violent Extremism ⁢”Hedayah” and the GCTF ‌Working Group on Countering Violent Extremism, the ‌Moroccan Ministry of ⁢Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation ⁤and Moroccans‍ Abroad announced the⁢ launch of a new initiative. This initiative aims to address emerging challenges, ⁤successes, and best practices in‌ preventing and combating violent extremism in the educational field.

The initiative will develop concrete solutions​ and practical recommendations ‍for decision-makers, educators, and civil society ‌actors. It will also examine good practices implemented in Africa, particularly ‌in the Sahel region, to extract lessons applicable to the fight against extremism.

The implementation of this initiative aligns with ⁣the‌ framework documents and good⁤ practices developed by ⁣the GCTF, including the “Abu Dhabi Memorandum on Good Practices in Education‍ to‌ Combat Violent Extremism.”

The initiative, which​ will ⁤run for two years (2023-2025), will include:

  • A Training of ⁤Trainers (ToT) programme for educators to strengthen learners’ resilience to violent ⁣extremism.
  • Development of a toolkit and indicators to monitor and evaluate programmes ⁣and policies to prevent and combat violent extremism in ⁢education.

During its‌ official ​launch in May 2023, the Minister of Foreign ⁤Affairs ⁤and⁢ the ⁤High Representative of⁢ the EU emphasized​ the crucial role of education in preventing radicalism, ‌countering ‌violent extremism, and eradicating extremist ideologies. They highlighted‍ the strong partnership ⁢and shared commitment between Morocco and⁢ the EU ⁣in⁤ promoting peace,⁣ security, and development.
