The Moroccan Ministry of Health confirmed this Wednesday the first case of the mpox disease, previously known as rabies, and it has been reported that an infected person is receiving necessary medical treatment in a special facility in the city of Marrakech.
The patient is stable and health teams are conducting “close monitoring” to ascertain his current state of health, and special isolation and monitoring procedures have been activated, according to the Moroccan state news agency, MAP.
Health authorities began an epidemiological investigation to find the patient’s contacts as soon as they received test results that confirmed the case with the aim of preventing its spread, and none of these contacts showed symptoms in time this.
Finally, the minister’s portfolio has asked the citizens of the country to turn to official sources to get “accurate” information and avoid “spreading rumors or unconfirmed information.”
