Morocco: e-visa open to Beninese while awaiting visa removal

From January 1, 2024, Beninese traveling to Morocco will be able to apply for an electronic visa. This is the first step in a process of total visa exemption for Beninese nationals by Morocco.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Benin, Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, on his X account (formerly Twitter). He himself was informed of the decision of the Cherifian kingdom during a telephone exchange this Tuesday, December 12, 2023 that he had with his counterpart Nasser BouritaMoroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad:

“As part of facilitating the free movement of people between the two countries, Morocco will examine with all due attention the visa exemption for Beninese nationals holding ordinary passports. In the meantime, Beninese citizens will benefit, from January 1, 2024, from the e-Visa facility, developed since 2023 with brother and friendly countries of the Kingdom.”

The e-visa now open to Beninese travelers going to Morocco is “a single-person authorization allowing access and stay for a limited and uninterrupted period on Moroccan territory. It is issued online to certain categories of foreign nationals subject to the formality of an entry visa to the Kingdom”. The formalities are carried out on the platform Access Morocco.

Pioneer of visa opening

It should be noted that Moroccan nationals can also enter and circulate freely in Benin under the visa exemption decided by Benin for all African nationals.

According to information collected on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Benin, the country has concluded 26 reciprocal visa waiver agreements. These are all measures that reinforce its approach to being the first French-speaking country to facilitate the free movement of people. The country has also occupied first place for 5 consecutive years in the ranking on the opening of visa regimes in Africa according to le rapport Visa openness Index report 2022 published by the African Development Bank.
