This workshop was an opportunity to present the main achievements obtained during the first phase of the DIAF project and provide the broad outlines of the strategic orientation and areas of intervention for the second phase, indicates a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests.

Initiated via the signing of a declaration of intent in April 2019 and an implementation agreement in November 2019, the DIAF project experienced great success during its first four-year execution phase (2019 – 2023), adds the same source.

Building on the successes of the project, the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, and the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) of the Federal Republic of Germany , have decided to extend this fruitful collaboration for an additional period of three years (2024-2026).

According to the press release, the implementation agreement for this second phase of the Morocco-German Agricultural and Forestry Technical Dialogue (DIAF) project was signed on January 20, 2024 in Berlin as part of bilateral cooperation between the two ministries.

The DIAF project aims to sustainably intensify exchanges of expertise and technical assistance in order to support and advise Moroccan partners on priority agricultural themes. This initiative is in line with similar BMEL projects which aim to promote agricultural technical dialogue to answer specific questions in the sector.

The second phase of the project illustrates the resolute commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Federal Republic of Germany to deepen their bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of agriculture and forestry. This collaboration aims to support reform efforts in the agricultural and forestry sector in Morocco.

The main objective of this phase is to build on the progress made so far to strengthen organic agriculture and professional agricultural and forestry organizations (OPAF) in Morocco in the long term.

It includes two main components, namely the improvement of legal and institutional frameworks for the promotion and control of organic agricultural production as well as for the development of professional agricultural organizations. This component aims to advise the Moroccan government on these crucial aspects.

The second component aims to strengthen the system of business groups in the field of agriculture and forestry, with particular emphasis on the integration of small and medium-sized businesses into local economic circuits, the press release said.

This second phase of the DIAF project marks an important step in strengthening ties between Morocco and Germany in the agricultural and forestry fields, and demonstrates the common desire to work together for sustainable development.
