The event aims to explore new strategies, share best practices and build sustainable networks for the development of cooperatives in Africa, the ministry said in a statement.
The Coopstar Workshop brings together experts, cooperative leaders, policy makers and entrepreneurs from twenty countries, including Morocco, Kenya, Senegal, Botswana, Tanzania, Cameroon, Eswatini, Korea, Uganda, Belgium, Nigeria, South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Cape Verde, Ghana, Switzerland, Zambia, Togo and Zimbabwe.
This project is a collaborative initiative resulting from in-depth cooperative action research, networking and intensive interactions between key stakeholders.
It includes the African cooperative movement, the International Cooperative Alliance and its African regional office, the International Labour Organization, as well as international cooperative partners such as the Korean Federation of Community Credit Unions (KFCC) and the Belgian Raiffeisen Fund (Cera/BRS).
Following a preliminary workshop in December 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya, bringing together experts from 17 African countries to lay the foundations for a book project on the role of cooperatives in the transition to a circular, green and sustainable economy, including through the presentation and discussion of the first national reports, this second workshop is dedicated to finalizing the chapters of the book.
This transformative project supports the African cooperative movement, in alignment with the United Nations 2030 Agenda and beyond.
