Speaking during the monthly session of oral questions addressed to the head of government at the House of Representatives, around the “Strategic orientations of the health system”, Mr. Akhannouch underlined the capacity of the Kingdom to guarantee its national strategic stock of medicines and health products, by meeting 70% of the needs of the national market for medicines and vaccines.

In accordance with the High Royal Vision for the consolidation of health sovereignty as the basis of the Kingdom’s strategic security, and in execution of the High Royal will relating to the strengthening of drug safety and access to quality drugs and health products at affordable prices for citizens, the government is working to establish the Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products under Law No. 10.22, by providing it with the necessary prerogatives and mechanisms to support the accelerated developments in this field, noted Mr. Akhannouch.

He considered, in this sense, that this dynamic comes at a time when the government is committed to supporting all investment projects relating to the health system, such as the first smart generic medicine factory in Africa in the province of Benslimane.

Alongside the efforts made to strengthen the health provision in Morocco, the head of government noted that the Executive is continuing to implement a set of programs to prevent and combat diseases, highlighting the achievements made this year in the field of maternal and child health, particularly through free vaccines for the protection of children, infants and women of childbearing age.

Mr. Akhannouch also emphasized the importance of the role that will be played by the maternity allowance, particularly for first and second births, in protecting the health of mothers and newborns in families in precarious situations.

The social categories in need have benefited from special attention, he further noted, stressing that the government has worked to provide more than 500,000 health services to the population targeted by the “Riaya” operation, through 4,000 visits by mobile medical units and the organization of more than 200 small specialized medical campaigns, in addition to the care of more than 29,000 women victims of violence.

The Head of Government also recalled the organization of the annual national campaign for screening and treatment of health problems in the school population, which benefited more than 1.5 million children, adolescents and young people, including people with disabilities.

Regarding people suffering from chronic diseases, Mr. Akhannouch assured that more than a million diabetics have been treated in the various primary health care establishments, in addition to the acquisition of electronic devices for screening, diagnosis and monitoring of patients suffering from hypertension in these establishments and the treatment of approximately 200,000 patients in oncology centers.

Regarding the fight against communicable diseases, he announced a 50% reduction in new cases linked to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), as well as the launch of five new consultation centers dedicated to the care of people suffering from HIV in Tetouan, Dakhla, Tiznit, Khenifra and Essaouira.

The Head of Government also indicated that the therapeutic success rate for tuberculosis has been maintained at 90%, with an increase in that relating to drug-resistant tuberculosis from 57% to 63%.
