In an article entitled “When football builds a bridge between continents”, the media indicates that this joint candidacy was announced by HM King Mohammed VI, in a message on the occasion of the presentation of the Excellence Award of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the year 2022, awarded to the Sovereign in Kigali, Rwanda.

The publication notes that the Kingdom of Morocco hosted the FIFA Club World Cup this year, and is also “the favorite candidate” to organize the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).

The magazine reports that HM the King noted in this message that this joint candidacy, “unprecedented in the history of football”, will be that of the junction “between Africa and Europe, between the north and the south of the Mediterranean, and between the African, Arab and Euro-Mediterranean worlds”.

“Diplomaty & Commerce” also reports that the Spanish and Portuguese prime ministers welcomed this joint bid for the 2030 World Cup, believing that the three countries now have a better chance of hosting the tournament.

This “Mediterranean bid” is so far in competition with only one other official bid presented to FIFA, namely that supported by four South American countries: Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay, the magazine recalls, adding that other bids should be announced before September 2024, when the vote should take place.

Looking back at the prestigious CAF Excellence Award given to HM King Mohammed VI, the magazine emphasizes that it is a “recognition of the remarkable developments in Moroccan football during the year 2022, in terms of infrastructure, youth training programs and governance.”

These achievements culminated in the historic feat of the Moroccan football team at the World Cup in Qatar, securing a place in the semi-finals of the World Cup, for the first time for an African and Arab nation, the article reads.

The Sovereign noted that this recognition is “a tribute to the genius of Africa and its brilliant Youth,” the magazine added, noting that HM the King recalled, on this occasion, His conviction, expressed in His Speech on the occasion of the 29th Summit of the African Union, in 2017, that “the future of Africa depends on its youth” and that only “a proactive policy oriented towards youth will channel energy for development.”

HM King Mohammed VI also affirmed that he “was keen to make football a lever for success and sustainable human development,” the publication highlighted.
