“During my term as Vice President of Colombia and Minister of Foreign Affairs, I had a very clear idea of the strategic importance of Morocco, precisely because His Majesty the King made it not only an attractive country for investments, but also the country of reference in the Arab world for Latin American states,” Ramirez said in a statement to MAP.
She added that Morocco has experienced, since the enthronement of His Majesty the King, a great economic boom, having generated business and employment opportunities, reduced inequalities and strengthened the influence of the Kingdom on the international scene.
Stressing that Morocco is seen throughout the world as a true gateway to Africa, Ms. Ramirez said that for Colombia, “Moroccan leadership is very important for Africa, for Latin America and for the world.”
Highly welcoming the Royal Atlantic Initiative, the former vice-president of Colombia emphasized Morocco’s strategic position with two maritime facades, which show the Kingdom’s great capacity to influence the economic and business agenda.
“The improvement of Morocco’s economic and social indicators are likely to optimize the scope of this Initiative,” she said.
Noting the “convergence” of the interests of Colombia and Morocco, Ms. Ramirez stressed the importance of the Atlantic Initiative to strengthen Morocco’s position, its international leadership and its capacity for influence.
“The world needs this ocean (Atlantic) to be a source of wealth, an instrument of maritime transport, and also a space for commitment to the environmental sustainability of the countries bordering it,” she insisted.
Mrs. Ramirez also focused on the situation of women in Morocco, considering that the initiatives undertaken by His Majesty the King in this area have been “very positive” and have allowed the recognition of the potential, capacities and contribution of women to the development of society.
“Moroccan women participate more in the development of the economy and business, which allows Morocco to improve its gross domestic product, generate more jobs and guarantee the well-being of families,” concluded the former vice president of Colombia.
