This first joint candidacy between African and European countries strengthens the Kingdom’s chances in the South American dossier (Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Paraguay), while waiting for the other candidacies which will be announced, Mr. Zizi told MAP.

He considered that this Afro-European junction through a joint application is likely to encourage UEFA and CAF to support Morocco’s initiatives aimed at hosting this major sporting competition, alongside Spain and Portugal.

Morocco’s candidacy for this World Cup is part of a global vision of development that concerns the future of Morocco and Africa, and this, in a new partnership context profitable to Africa and Europe, which is likely to open new horizons following a new mentality, he stressed.

Furthermore, Mr. Zizi indicated that Morocco has enough time to be fully ready by 2030, knowing that it has reached important stages in terms of development, particularly in the sports and infrastructure sectors.

HM King Mohammed VI announced, on Tuesday, Morocco’s joint candidacy, with Spain and Portugal, to host the 2030 World Cup, in a message on the occasion of the presentation of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Excellence Award for the year 2022 (CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award-2022).

This joint candidacy, unprecedented in the history of football, will be that of the junction between Africa and Europe, between the north and the south of the Mediterranean, and between the African, Arab and Euro-Mediterranean worlds, noted the Sovereign.
