In the eyes of this professor of history at the Paraguayan Air Force Institute and author of a book entitled “The Moroccan Sahara beyond Western Sahara”, this is “a fair recognition of the constant work of HM King Mohammed VI in favor of religious tolerance and the promotion of the culture of coexistence between civilizations, as well as his continuous efforts to place Morocco in modernity and integrate it into the concert of nations.”

In a statement to MAP, Aguero Wagner described Morocco’s election to the presidency of the UN Human Rights Council as “historic”, emphasizing in particular “the doctrine drawn up and respected by Morocco in the context of international disputes, in which its action is invariably marked by the search for consensus, through dialogue.”

Morocco was elected on Wednesday to the Presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the year 2024, during a vote held in Geneva.

Of the forty-seven members of the United Nations Human Rights Council, 30 supported Morocco’s candidacy, compared to that of South Africa, which received only 17 votes.

A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad stressed that this election of Morocco, for the first time in its history, to the Presidency of this prestigious UN body, expresses recognition by the international community of the clairvoyance of the Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, in matters of protection and promotion of human rights.
