Morocco’s election to the Presidency of the CDH, a reflection of continued international (academic) influence
Rabat – Morocco’s election to the Presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the year 2024 reflects the Kingdom’s continued influence on the international scale, said Professor of International Law and International Relations, Abdelfattah Belamachi.
This election crowns the diplomatic efforts led by Morocco, thanks to the clear-sighted vision of HM King Mohammed VI, which allowed the Kingdom to occupy a pioneering position at the regional, continental and international levels and to establish itself as a dynamic actor on issues of peace, security and political, economic, commercial, security and humanitarian fields and as an influential contributor to the resolution of problems of the international system, Mr. Belamachi told MAP.
Thanks to this consecration, the Kingdom will be able to highlight its visions and active initiatives with the international community in the field of Human Rights, “a specific, complex and crucially important area which constitutes one of the key issues of today’s international system”, stressed the academic, adding that this election reflects the continuity of the strong and remarkable presence enjoyed by Morocco.
He also noted that Morocco’s election to head the CDH is “a historic feat for the Kingdom”, especially since it won hands down over an adversary like South Africa, which demonstrates Morocco’s positioning with its friendly and brotherly countries in Africa.
