Rabat – Morocco’s election to the Presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council (CND) for the year 2024 is an international recognition of the Kingdom’s achievements in human rights, thanks to the wise vision of HM King Mohammed VI, said Professor of Political Science at Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech Atik Essaid.
This election is the fruit of a contribution, over the years, in the realization of the principles of human rights and the protection of its universal system, and also represents the international crowning of a national path adopted under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in terms of strengthening the rule of law and consolidating the values of institutional democracy in all areas, Mr. Essaid stressed in a statement to MAP.
The academic also noted that the election of the Kingdom for the first time in its history to the Presidency of this renowned UN body constitutes a remarkable and unprecedented event that reflects the international consideration of Morocco’s efforts and its unique achievements in the field of human rights, under the wise and far-sighted leadership of the Sovereign, which has enabled the Kingdom to move forward in the appropriate implementation of human rights principles. An implementation that was reinforced by the enshrinement of human rights in the 2011 Constitution, which constituted a major step forward.
Likewise, he said that this election also pays tribute to the firm will of HM King Mohammed VI and the High Royal Guidelines which place the principles of human rights among the priorities and constantly ensure their protection, to ensure a balance between these principles and the responsible and constant positions of Morocco, to recognize and seriously protect just and equitable rights in the various international forums and to support joint coordination with all international institutions and all universal mechanisms for the promotion of the culture of human rights.
