La American Bailout Act set aside stimulus money for states to help people at risk of losing their homes.
This is known as the Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAFfor its acronym in English), which provides almost 10 billion dollars for the states and other territories of the United States.
All eligible states and territories have applied for the funding, and 25 states they have already established their programs and are accepting applications.
For now, 11 states have already established pilot programswhile the rest are still in the process of doing so according to the National Council of State Housing Agencies (NCSHA).
If accepted, the funds can be used for mortgage payments, home insurance, utility payments and more.
The fund is available to those who have experienced financial hardship after the pandemic for Covid-19 initially hit the United States.
You may be eligible if you experienced financial hardship after January 21, 2020, as well as hardship that began before this date but continued after.
To qualify, income must be 150% or less than the area median income, or the 100% of median income of the United States, whichever is greater.
Also, the owner’s mortgage balance must be less than 548 thousand 250 dollarsand the amount you can get varies from state to state, but California currently offers the highest maximum of 80 thousand per household.
In comparison, Arizona offers $25,000, Georgia up to $50,000 and Oklahoma up to $20,000..
If and when your application is approved, the funds are usually sent directly to your mortgage lender and other providers.
