Moscow authorities will spend 4 billion rubles on a video surveillance system

by time news

The Center for Traffic Management (TsODD) of Moscow has placed a tender for the organization of an intelligent video surveillance system, for which it is planned to allocate 4.2 billion rubles over five years, Kommersant reported, citing data on the government procurement portal.

The authorities are leasing 1,300 video cameras from the contractor, 770 of which will be installed on the Moscow Ring Road. Each complex consists of three cameras with IR illumination up to 250 m and 40x optical zoom. It is planned that the system will start deploying in the city in 2022. According to the documentation, the equipment will use a neural network to identify and record incidents on the road, garbage on the roadway, dropped cargo, animals, car parts and other items that threaten road safety. Also, the system must itself recognize traffic jams, detect smoke and fire in the event of an accident and traffic violations.

The CDC told the publication that these cameras will not fine drivers, but information from them will be passed on to emergency services or the nearest patrol crew for response and assistance. Information about an accident or obstacle will be reflected on an electronic board on the road. The system will be able to record incidents and immediately notify emergency services. The center noted that the neural network has already been trained with big data from other countries, although the contract for the deployment of the system has not yet been formally concluded.
