Moscow expands use of artificial intelligence in healthcare

by time news

Moscow has begun to use artificial intelligence to diagnose aneurysm of the thoracic aorta, said Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development.

“Last year, we integrated digital equipment into a single network and introduced services based on artificial intelligence in the work of radiologists. At first, the services helped to analyze images only for signs of COVID-19, but gradually the capabilities of neural networks within the framework of the Moscow experiment expanded. Now doctors in the capital will be able to use artificial intelligence to diagnose aneurysms of the thoracic aorta. The importance of early detection of this disease is due to its asymptomatic course and a high risk of death in case of complications, ”the deputy mayor said.

According to Ms. Rakova, thanks to AI, the doctor will be able to quickly describe the images and pay attention to the slightest deviations. After processing the image, the neural network applies markings where the increased attention of a specialist is required. First of all, radiologists receive studies in which pathological changes are more likely to be detected.

In total, AI-based services are currently available for physicians in seven areas. Doctors use artificial intelligence to diagnose lung and breast cancers, COVID-19, and other chest pathologies, including osteoporosis and coronary heart disease. Algorithms in four other areas are undergoing the testing stage – this is the analysis of CT of the chest organs for the diagnosis of emphysema, CT of the chest organs in order to diagnose signs of pulmonary hypertension with the determination of the diameter of the pulmonary trunk, CT of the brain for diagnosing strokes, X-ray of the musculoskeletal system for detecting flat feet.
