Moscow warns US of ‘unforeseeable consequences’ after US military aid to Ukraine

by time news

Russia sent a formal complaint to the United States this week warning the US government of “unforeseeable consequences” following the sharp increase in US military aid to Ukraine, according to the Washington Post. In this diplomatic note, the Kremlin thus warns the United States and NATO against sending “more sensitive” weapons to Ukraine, considering that such military equipment put “oil on the fire and could cause “unforeseeable consequences”.

The warning comes as US President Joe Biden pledged $800 million worth of military aid to Ukraine, including helicopters and armored personnel carriers. “What the Russians are telling us privately is precisely what we are telling the world publicly, that the massive aid we are providing to our Ukrainian partners is proving to be remarkably effective,” a senior US official said, quoted by the American newspaper.

Towards a more aggressive Russian attitude?

These new American deliveries will include some of the “very effective equipment that we have already delivered” to Ukraine, but also “new capabilities”, including “artillery systems” and “armoured personnel carriers”, said the US executive.

According to the New York Times, the Russian complaint was sent through normal diplomatic channels and is not signed by a senior Russian official. For its part, CNN indicates that, according to a source familiar with the matter, this diplomatic note could mean that Moscow is preparing to adopt a more aggressive attitude against the United States and NATO.
