The city of Jerusalem has received quite a few blows in recent years: whether it is the waves of terror and the security situation that make it an explosive hotspot or the fact that it is the worst emigrant in Israel, and the multiple construction sites in the city.

But perhaps the last fact is the light at the end of the tunnel: Jerusalem is undergoing a significant process of renewal in a variety of areas.

The mayor of Jerusalem since 2018, Moshe Leon, enthusiastically says of the projects you are considering: “In another three years, the buildings that are currently under construction will be completed, and this is going to be 1,600,000 square meters of employment area, mainly high-tech.”

According to the mayor, the hundreds of thousands of square meters of new offices will be commanded by tens of thousands of new employees: “I meet with companies that are interested in being here. I imagine that in the next six months, two global companies will come to Jerusalem and expand their representation here. “

On the issue of housing, Leon admits that Jerusalem is expensive, and as a result the city suffers from very large negative immigration. In his opinion, the solution is to increase supply. He promises to focus on construction mainly for young people: “We ended 2021 with construction starts of 5,400 housing units, in 2022 and 2023, I promise there will be 6,000 and 6,000, ie in three years – 15 “A thousand housing units. I believe we will reach at least another 20,000 housing units by 2030. I am greatly increasing the apartments for rent so that young people can return to fill the city center.”

Another issue that is a sore point for the residents of the city is transportation – the city is very congested due to the variety of infrastructure and construction works in the city. However, Leon claims that Jerusalem will be the first to get out of traffic jams thanks to the new light rail lines, and even promises bicycle paths within the city: “By the end of this year we are completing 70 km of bicycle paths. At the moment, we have about 40 km within the city, and in the next five years we will reach 200 kilometers. “
