Most Britons want Boris Johnson to resign due to pandemic party

by time news

According to two polls at once, more than half of Britons want Prime Minister Boris Johnson to resign. A poll conducted in January by Savanta ComRes among 1,040 Britons found that 66% of those polled wanted the head of the cabinet to resign. A month earlier, there were 12% fewer such.

In addition, 62% of those polled said that the biggest blow to the reputation of the ruling party and government was a party at the Prime Minister’s residence on Downing Street in May 2020, in the midst of a pandemic and lockdown, when the authorities banned mass events for citizens. This party became known at the end of last year, which immediately provoked a scandal.

According to a second poll by YouGov and Sky News, 56% want Boris Johnson to resign. 27% believe that he should continue to work in his post, and 17% are undecided.

Chris Hopkins, director of political research at Savanta ComRes, notes that the 12% increase in dissatisfaction with the prime minister in just one month “speaks of a serious negative impact of the party gate.” But, adds Mr. Hopkins, “of course, the decision of whether Johnson should be in office or not remains not with the opinion polls, but with his party.”
