It is difficult to understand the story of Padma movie by telling someone else. It may not seem like a movie to someone else. That’s why I decided to direct myself. Then there is no need to convince someone else. This is one of the rare family movies in Malayalam. A plain and simple narrative of a husband-wife relationship. The strength of this movie is the content. So no great technical knowledge was required as a director.
To return to the family story
A family is a system in which two people who have never met or heard before live together in a special situation. Most of us do not like to stay with another person, even in a lodge room. When I look at it like that, the system of family is very strange to me. The film explores the mathematics and sociology of family relationships in a civilized context. A movie for those who are married and want to eat. Not intended for those who are not interested in marriage.
Was it a big challenge as a director?
This is a picture from my circle of friends. Apart from myself and Surabhi Lakshmi, the cast consists mostly of newcomers. Cinematographer Mahadevan Thambi, music director Ninoy Varghese, art director Dundubhi and a host of newcomers. I had no pressure as a director because it was formed through our friendship.
What happened to the first film directed by Kingfish?
The film was completed but could not be released due to technical reasons. It will also hit theaters by September. I am happy that the two directed films are coming out together.
