Thiruvananthapuram: The sight of Ammayana, who has been keeping watch for hours by the side of the fallen Kutiyana in Vitura Marukumkala, is painful. The tribals informed the forest department officials last night.
Officials reached the spot in the night but nothing could be done as Ammayana did not move away. Even this morning, the baby elephant is walking with its mother. For hours the state of being able to do something only if Katana left. This is an area where wildebeests regularly come down.
Tribals light fires at night to prevent herds of elephants from coming near their houses. Kutyana came to know about the incident when she came down to light the fire at night. All personnel led by DFO are still in place. They are trying to move the child away from the mother.
