Her mother and grandmother died tragically. Sarah Ferguson and Princess Eugenie remembered her with moving words on the anniversary of her death.

As the ex-wife of Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson is no longer an official member of the Royal Family, but she is still in the public eye. On her Instagram account, the 64-year-old regularly gives her more than 700,000 followers insights into her everyday life.

On Thursday, she remembered a particularly sad chapter of her life in a post. “My beloved mother Susie died 26 years ago today,” the Brit wrote in a series of pictures, the first of which shows her with her family on her wedding day in July 1986. Susan Barrantes is wearing a yellow suit and can also be seen in other photos.

The documentary filmmaker died on September 19, 1998. “She was far too young to be taken from us and I often reflect on the fact that at just 61, she was younger than I am now when she died in a horrific accident,” Fergie continued. “I constantly think of her zest for life and her radiant nature. Like all of us, she made mistakes, but she taught me to appreciate every single day and to always try to treat other people with kindness. I miss her very much.”

Susan Barrantes was driving in her adopted home of Argentina, where she lived with her second husband, when she collided with an oncoming pickup truck on a country road. The 61-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt and was decapitated in the collision, police said at the time.

A tragedy that the family has not yet come to terms with. Sarah Ferguson’s daughter, Princess Eugenie, also remembered her deceased grandmother. “I miss my beautiful Grannie Susie,” the 34-year-old posted in her Instagram story, where she shared her mother’s post.
