Within a short period, blood poisoning, known as sepsis, developed, leading to kidney failure. The woman fell into a coma and underwent twelve surgeries, as reported by RTL.
The infection caused significant damage, with the woman’s left thigh now only 85 percent intact and partial paralysis in her left leg. The long-term effects of sepsis and organ failure have greatly affected her daily life, making her dependent on assistance.
According to the Sepsis Foundation, blood poisoning occurs when the body’s natural defense reaction to an insect bite damages its organs or tissues. This can lead to shock, multi-organ failure, and even death. Recognizing the symptoms of sepsis is crucial, which may include fever and chills, skin discoloration, increased heart rate, low blood pressure, fatigue, confusion, rapid or heavy breathing.
The Asian tiger mosquito is known for transmitting tropical diseases, some of which pose severe health risks. Symptoms can vary greatly from patient to patient, often leading to confusion with other diseases. The long-term consequences can include amputations, paralysis, deafness, chronic exhaustion, and poor memory and concentration. The Federal Ministry of Health, Social Affairs, Care, and Consumer Protection warns that infection with tropical diseases caused by the tiger mosquito can result in flu-like symptoms such as fever, fatigue, headaches, and body aches.
