There were five of them absent during this crucial vote for the majority. Several Renaissance deputies were not present in the National Assembly this Monday, when a motion to reject the immigration bill, defended by the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin, was voted on.

The text aimed in particular to facilitate the expulsions of foreigners deemed dangerous on the one hand, and, on the other, to enable the regularization of undocumented workers in certain professions in tension on the other. The National Assembly adopted by 270 votes to 265 a motion to reject the bill beforehand, with the votes of the left, the Republicans and the National Rally.

Within the Renaissance group, resulting from the presidential majority, 165 deputies out of 170 tried to counter the rejection motion. Five others were absent: these are the deputies Jean-Philippe Ardouin (3rd constituency of Charente-Maritime), Anne Genetet (11th constituency of French people living abroad), Monique Iborra (6th constituency of Haute-Garonne), Amélia Lakrafi (10th constituency for French people living abroad) and Michel Lauzzana (1st constituency of Lot-et-Garonne).

“I would have voted against this motion”

“I was in Toulouse with the President of the Republic”, visiting Toulouse to take stock of two years of the France 2030 investment plan, Monique Iborra explained to La Dépêche du Midi. “I was the only Renaissance representative present. I had to be there. Obviously, I would have voted against this motion to reject because this immigration law is essential, many people were waiting for it,” she continued.

The elected Renaissance, ex-socialist, was however very critical of the unexpected alliance of LFI and the RN, the Socialist Party and the LR. “I expected nothing from LFI and the National Rally who only think about bringing down the government but I am very angry with the LR and PS deputies. They made a serious mistake,” thundered the elected official from Haute-Garonne.

“The text of the law was balanced, both firm and focused on integration. The right and the left could find their account there. They were not up to the challenge, only in posture,” she continued. The four other absent deputies had not yet spoken on this subject Monday evening.
