Motonautica, the Pavia-Venice Raid returns in June after 10 years

On 6 June 2021, after ten years, one of the most classic motorboat events returns: the Pavia-Venice International Motorboat Raid. The 69th edition will be organized by the Pavia Motorboat Association, in collaboration with the Venice Motorboat Association and under the aegis of the Italian Motorboat Federation. This edition will coincide with the same date of the debut: on 6 June 1929 Ettore Negri won, assisted by the mechanic Luigi Calvi.


The race of over 400 km, starting from Pavia and arriving in Brondolo-Chioggia-Venice on the same day, will also see great names in motor boating and world sport compete. Starting with Lino Di Biase, for many years at a very high international level, especially in Class1 and P1 offshore. Also present was Tullio Abbate Jr. Son of art of the unforgettable builder and great driver Tullio Abbate, he will race in tandem with Count Marco Massazza D’Aresi, one of the most popular rice producers.

Also present will be the 5-time world champion in powerboating Drew Langdon, competing with Gina Campbell’s old 1970 boat, completely restored with 2 250hp Mercury outboard motors. The event will then boast the presence of Riccardo Ravizza (owner of the famous Pellicceria Annabella di Pavia), the former ski champion Kristian Ghedina, the sailor Luca Tosi and three great Italian motorboat champions: Giuliano Landini, Guido Cappellini and Serafino Barlesi paired with another historical name of the Italian powerboat such as Giampaolo Montavoci.

The following are admitted to the race: the Formula Catamaran Specialties racing boats and all racing categories over 500 cc built after 1990; pleasure boats, up to 9.90 meters, whose cruising speed is not less than 60 km / hour; Offshore – Class 3; Endurance Group B – all categories; Jet ski – Endurance; Historic Racers – Classes 2000 cc – 2500 cc; Nautical skiers – speed; Air propeller hydro gliders. The Pavia-Venice raid was born in 1929 and with its 400 km it was the longest inland water race in Europe. From 1934 it was organized by the Pavia Motorboat Association: 68 editions in 85 years, with 13 years of interruption during the war and 3 suspensions, until its last edition in 2011.

Within the competition, more trophies will be awarded. The “Coppa Teo Rossi di Montelera” is awarded to the competitor who in the 55 km long timed section “Revere-Pontelagoscuro” will have reached the highest average speed. It is a perpetual prize established in the memory of Count Teo Rossi di Montelera who participated in various editions of the Raid Pavia Venezia. The “Vincenzo Balsamo Trophy”, established by the FIM, is dedicated to the memory of the Great Pioneer and first scorer of the Pavia-Venice Raid and is awarded to the driver who will have completed the Raid course and who will have been classified with an average higher than the best obtained. for its category and class in previous Raids starting from the 30th.

The “Raid Classic Trophy” in historical-sporting recognition is reserved for historic racing boats built before 1990. The best classified in each category will be awarded. The final award ceremony will be held in the historic Arsenale of Venice and will be the closing event of the Venice Boat Show. Here, during the award ceremony, the most beautiful boats and the winners of the 69th Pavia-Venice Raid will gather.
