History
Nissan first launched in India in 2005. But the Micra is the senior hatchback that gave Nissan its name. Nissan brought Micra as Pulse’s Nissan badge after Japan’s Nissan teamed up with French company Renault. That is, the Pulse and the Micra are one and the same. Which engine is best?
The Micra has two engine options, petrol and diesel. Its 1.2-litre petrol engine is super peppy for city driving. But, this is a 3 cylinder engine setup. So, you don’t have to worry too much about the mileage. Its throttle response is amazing. It has a 5 speed manual gearbox. Some Micra owners rave about how fun it is to drive in the city.
Step on the accelerator on some empty highways and the rpm meter ticks up to 6,800rpm. Its mid-range performance is also fantastic. So, overtaking is easy. But they say the noise it makes on the highways is a little annoying. The noise inside the cabin can also make you sleepy. So, if you’re in the used car market, hit a rev on the highways.
Coming to its diesel. It is powered by a 1.5-litre, SOHC, 4-cylinder diesel engine. Its power is 64bhp. Torque is 160Nm. This too has a 5-speed manual. Same Micra in driving and handling as usual. As far as the engine is concerned, diesel is preferred over petrol. The reason is that it has 1 cylinder more than petrol and its engine performance on the highway… it can fly up to 140 km and the operation of this engine… everything is a plus. Its performance in the city is just as good as the petrol model.
But, for mid-budget customers, mileage is what matters! It gives amazing mileage compared to petrol. One of our readers owns a Nissan Micra Diesel. “Now the mileage has decreased!” he lamented. “How much” means 18 km into the city, he says. This means that earlier it has given him more than 18 km. He said 20 – 21 km on highways. With a 41 liter tank… no need to stop at petrol stations often. However, the petrol variant of the Micra is said to give an average mileage of around 14 kmpl.
It also has large windows so visibility is good. Some hatchbacks have a blind spot. Never had any such problem with the Micra.
