Stefan Bradl and Jonas Folger scored championship points in the eighth round of the motorcycle world championship thanks to competitors dropping out.

In the fourth win of the season for world champion and overall leader Francesco Bagnaia, Honda reserve driver Bradl finished 13th on Sunday in Assen, the Netherlands. Folger scored two points in 14th place as a substitute for the still injured Pol Espargaró. A total of eight drivers did not finish.

Things didn’t go according to plan for Lukas Tulovic in the Moto2 class. The Eberbacher worked his way up from 19th place on the grid, but missed out on the points in 16th place. “I struggled,” Tulovic said after the race, which Jake Dixon won. “It’s a shame, it didn’t go together. I hope we find out what it was.”

The premier class race took place without eight-time world champion Marc Márquez. The factory Honda rider was denied a start by doctors after starting the weekend with a fractured rib, bruised ankle and thumb injury. The upcoming summer break comes at the right time for Márquez, before returning to Silverstone in early August. (dpa)
