The hazard lights are on: Kellermann GmbH, the Aachen-based manufacturer of motorcycle lighting, has filed for insolvency under self-administration. Operations will initially continue without restrictions.

The Aachen-based specialist for motorcycle lighting, Kellermann GmbH, is insolvent. According to consistent media reports, the company has filed for insolvency under self-administration. The Aachen District Court has meanwhile ordered this and appointed lawyer Mark Boddenberg as provisional administrator.

In such a special insolvency, the management remains in office, but is given a lawyer as an administrator and a restructuring specialist. This is intended to help reach an out-of-court settlement with the creditors.

The Kellermann company, founded in 1989, is considered to be the leader in the market for retrofitted indicators – the company is said to have established so-called “mini indicators” on the German market, according to specialist portals. The products are often just called “Kellermanns”, writes “Speedweek.com”.

“The most important message is that our business operations will continue without restrictions and we will continue to serve all our customers as usual,” said Managing Director Ulrich Bos, according to a statement from the responsible law firm “AndresPartner”.

The main reason for the current insolvency was the consequences of the corona pandemic, which led to a loss of sales. The ongoing consumer reluctance in the wake of the war in Ukraine and the increased inflation also hit the company.

In addition, counterfeit indicators from the Far East are likely to have cost the company sales. In 2013, company founder Guido Kellermann attracted attention with a spectacular campaign, writes “motorradonline.de”. According to the report, he demonstratively had 1,900 counterfeit indicators run over by a US battle tank.

The wages and salaries of the employees are secured for three months through insolvency benefits from the employment agency. The shareholders have meanwhile emphasized that they will stand by the company and support the restructuring of the company, the law firm’s statement continued.
