Motorways, “risk of sting on tolls from August” – Corriere.it

by time news

Starting from next August 1st, a new blow could hit the pockets of Italian motorists and those who will travel by car to go on vacation: on July 31st the freezing of tariff increases for motorway tolls established by the Milleproroghe decree passed at the end of December last year. Assoutenti remembers this, the consumers’ association, which appeals to Mims and the Ministry of Economy to avoid a summer bloodletting.

«The Milleproroghe decree – explains the president Furio Truzzi – ordered the suspension of any toll tariff adjustments on almost all (98%) of the motorway sections under concession. A measure, however, which will only be valid until 31 July, and which, if not extended, will trigger heavy tariff increases on the entire network starting from 1 August ». An increase which, according to the association, would not only come when millions of Italians move along the highways for the summer holidays, but which would add to the heavy increases in gasoline and diesel prices recorded in recent months. “We remember – added Truzzi – that the motorway tariffs applied in Italy are already the highest in Europe, second only to those in France, and that the service is constantly worsening with slowdowns, construction sites, queues and inconveniences now daily throughout the network”. A mockery for consumers against which Assoutenti is asking today for the intervention of MIMS and the Ministry of Economy, so that any increase in tolls is blocked and yet another damage to families, already impoverished by a year and a half of Covid, is avoided .
