The epicenter is located in Dingli County and the Chinese side’s Mount Everest base camp.

Xinhua News Agency reported that the climbing route to Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak at 8,840 meters above sea level, was temporarily closed due to an earthquake that occurred in the Tibet Autonomous Region on the morning of the 7th.
The Chinese base camp of Mount Everest is located in Dingli County, the epicenter of this earthquake. The earthquake caused a power outage at the base of the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Atmospheric Environment Research Institute in Dingli County, but the facility remains in good condition.
According to the Dingli County Culture and Tourism Bureau, the surrounding area, including hotels overlooking Mount Everest, suffered no damage from the earthquake and tourists and employees were safe.
The temperature in Dingli County is currently between -18 and 0 degrees Celsius. Xinhua News Agency reported that the number of foreign tourists on the Chinese side of Mount Everest was 13,764 last year, more than double the previous year.
Tourists are mainly from Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, and France.
Meanwhile, the number of deaths due to the magnitude 6.8 earthquake in Tibet that day was 53 and the number of injured was 62.
An earthquake was also felt in bordering Nepal, causing residents in the capital Kathmandu to come out of their homes.
CNN reported that while China announced the magnitude of the earthquake as 6.8, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) announced that the magnitude of the Tibet earthquake was 7.1.
