jpnn.comLUMAJANG – Mount Semeru erupted twice on Sunday (5/5) with a volcanic ash eruption height of 1 kilometer above the peak.

The first eruption occurred at 08.50 WIB, and the second eruption occurred at 20.22 WIB.

However, the two eruptions did not have a significant impact that could disrupt the activities of residents on the slopes of Mount Semeru which is on the border of Lumajang Regency and Malang, East Java.

“An eruption of Mount Semeru occurred on Sunday, May 5 2024, at 08.50 WIB with the height of the eruption column observed to be around 1,000 meters above the peak or around 4,676 meters above sea level,” said Mount Semeru Observation Post Officer Mukdas Sofian, Sunday (5/ 5).

According to Mukdas Sofian, the volcanic ash column was observed to be white to gray in color with thick intensity towards the north and northeast.

“Then Mount Semeru erupted again at 20.22 WIB with the height of the eruption column observed to be around 700 meters above the peak or around 4,376 meters above sea level,” he added.

The ash column was observed to be gray in color with thick intensity towards the northwest.

“The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 23 mm and a duration of 134 seconds,” he said.

Mount Semeru, which is on the border of Lumajang Regency and Malang, erupted again on Sunday (5/5)
