The activities aimed at controlling the “bad movida” will continue throughout the summer season and will also involve the other municipalities in the province.
Last weekend, in implementation of the directive of the Minister of the Interior of 17 April 2024, regarding urban nightlife and illegal activities connected to the entertainment circuit, implemented on 26 April by the Department of Public Security with detailed operational guidelines, the Prefect of Caltanissetta, during a technical coordination meeting of the police forces held on 19 June, in order to ensure that the so-called legal entertainment circuit takes place without abuse and compromise of citizens’ rights, shared important indications with the heads of the Police Forces aimed at raising the safety framework of entertainment activities.
With a subsequent order issued by the Police Chief, an inter-force control activity was thus scheduled, which took place over the past weekend in the municipalities of Gela, Niscemi and Sommatino with the use of approximately 50 men from the police force.
In particular, extraordinary services were carried out, aimed at controlling and ensuring the safety of urban areas where entertainment activities are most concentrated in order to strengthen and promote an entertainment circuit and combat forms of widespread illegality that may negatively affect citizens’ perception of safety: drug dealing and taking, excessive alcohol consumption, vandalism, damage, offenses against decorum, fights. Particular attention was also paid to the phenomenon of commercial abuse.
The important control operation carried out by the State Police, the Carabinieri, the Guardia di Finanza, with the collaboration of the Local Police Commands of the Municipalities involved, allowed the identification of 303 individuals, 40 of whom had previous police records, and the control of 112 vehicles.
During the checks, 16 traffic violations were also reported and 26 commercial activities were checked.
