the film “Not disciplined”Based on the true story of the women’s liberation protest during the Miss World pageant in London in 1970. The pageant was already facing controversy over South Africa’s representation by two participants: one black and one white. The evening was marred even before the TV competition began, but culminated when the famous presenter – Bob Hop (Greg Kinnear), Thrown on stage by flour bombs.
The plot revolves around different women – Keira Knightley As Sally Alexander, Gogo brings it to Roe As Jennifer Houston, Jesse Buckley As Joe Robinson andLeslie Manville As Dolores Hope – Bob’s wife. Alexander is a recently divorced single mother trying to make her way to University College London to study history. Knightley’s character perfectly captures Sally as a woman torn between her personal values and her family. Buckley, on the other hand, brings wonderful energy to Robinson, ready to do whatever it takes to make her voice heard. Mabta-Roe brings a rich play as an ambitious young lady, with her character Husten – seeing the competition as a launching point for her goals and aspirations. Manville’s restrained perception as Mrs. Hope has little effect on her relatively small role.
When the director Philippa Luthorp Weave these multiple plot lines around each other, the overlapping narratives tend to be long. While this ensures an adequate weight for each angle throughout the film, as a result, the middle set twists. Still, the climax is fascinating – if not an outright call for feminist action. The film makes us appreciate how brave women do everything to deal with patriarchy. More importantly, it is easy to see how far we have come towards equal rights for women, but also how much more we still have to go…
For a film with such a compelling title, “Not disciplined“, He ends up being a little too confident and trying to please the audience. However, the cast, as well as the actors, make the film enjoyable to watch, giving each character a compelling voice and reminding us that there are things that are still worth standing on.
