Queen Elizabeth, who died on Thursday last week, was a well-known dog lover. She especially loved “corgi” type dogs since childhood.

Elizabeth first received a corgi dog in 1933 when she was 7 years old as a gift from her father King George. 11 years later, in honor of her 18th birthday, she received a corgi she named “Susan” and the corgis she owned thereafter were her offspring. In total she raised at least 30 royal dogs throughout the years.

Elizabeth’s dogs lived in Buckingham Palace in excellent conditions and a room was even built for them and they were treated to fine food from the palace kitchen. Another interesting fact is that the queen regularly participated in their care, even though she could have allowed her servants to do so. The dogs even accompanied the queen in her other residences.

7 years ago it was announced that Elizabeth no longer breeds corgi dogs so that they would not be left behind at her death and 3 years later the last corgi owned by the Queen died. In 2020, only one corgi dog remained in her possession, which was later joined by two other puppies.

Many were interested in what would happen to the dogs she owned. So it turns out that Prince Andrew, Duke of York, the third son of Queen Elizabeth and Duchess Fergie will adopt the late Queen’s corgis.

A close associate of the duke said: “The corgis will return to live in the Royal Lodge with the duke and the duchess” He also added: “The duchess is the one who found the puppies given to her majesty by the duke.”

Apparently the dogs will continue to enjoy good conditions.
