Movistar and Vodafone have begun to communicate to their customers the price increases that they will apply in 2024, and 3.1% on average in the case of the first – taking into account all convergent and non-convergent rate changes – and and 4.38% in the case of the second, whose update is in line with the average annual inflation calculated from October 2022 until last September.

As for Movistar, the price increase will be applied from January 15, 2024while in the case of Vodafone the increase will begin in the first quarter of next year.

Movistar has argued that the increase in its rates will serve to improve its service and so that customers can have a “superior connectivity, with greater quality and coverage”through investment in the fiber network and 5G+.

Thus, the rate of ‘miMovistar Max‘ will go from the current 57.9 euros per month to 59.9 euros (+3.45%); ‘miMovistar Unlimited‘ will go from costing 74.9 euros to 76.9 euros (+2.67%); ‘miMovistar Unlimited x2‘ will cost 93.9 euros (compared to the current 90.9 euros; +3.3%) and ‘miMovistar Unlimited x4‘ will rise to 123.9 euros per month (compared to the current 120.9 euros; +2.48%).

Meanwhile, increases in Movistar’s non-convergent service rates will be around two euroswhile the company has informed customers that the promotions they have contracted will continue to be applied under the same conditions until they end.

Vodafone

As for Vodafone, rates will rise on average by 1.64 euros in 2024 and the British operator has defended the application of this increase due to inflation derived from “continued increase in energy prices, costs, services and suppliers”, which, as he explained, “has generated an impact on the business in a deflationary market context.”

Likewise, the price increase is also part of the need to “cope with the increase in investments to boost the deployment of next-generation 5G networks and the exponential growth of data traffic”, has added.

In this way, customers who have contracted a mobile plan from the currently marketed offer will see their monthly price increase by 0.8 euros on average, while for those who have convergent plans the increase will be 2.5 euros on average (VAT included).

This measure excludes vulnerable customers from a financial point of view who have contracted the operator’s social rates and customers of Lowithe company has clarified.

“With this initiative, the operator seeks to consolidate the sustainability of the business in the long term and secure the necessary resources to continue investing in new generation networks and innovative products and services in a market in which mobile phone prices have fallen by 32%. since 2008, according to the CNMC (National Markets and Competition Commission), with losses of more than 34% of income in the last 10 years,” the company added.
