Investigators in Belarus have brought charges against Gennady Mozheiko, journalist of Komsomolskaya Pravda in Belarus, under two articles – “Inciting social enmity or hatred” and “Insulting a representative of the authorities”. This is the conclusion reached by the newspaper “Komsomolskaya Pravda”, reported on October 11 on the newspaper’s website.

“On Monday, October 11, the investigation nevertheless brought an accusation against our colleague Gennady Mozheiko. This conclusion can be drawn from the fact that the journalist was not released, and according to Belarusian laws, the charge must be brought no later than 10 days after the arrest. (Mozheiko was detained on October 1), ”the message says.

It is clarified that the journalist is allegedly charged under the two specified articles.

On October 4, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus told that Mozheiko was detained in Belarus on October 1 and that the Russian Federation made him banned from entry. According to the department, he tried to fly to a third country. The next day, the editorial board of the newspaper announced the closure of Komsomolskaya Pravda in Belarus.

On October 2, the editor-in-chief of Komsomolskaya Pravda, Vladimir Sungorkin, said that Mozheiko was detained in Moscow and transported to Minsk, where he was placed in a well-known detention center on Akrestsin Street. He noted that the reason for the persecution of the journalist was an interview he took from a classmate of Andrei Zeltser, who was killed in a shootout with KGB officers, where she gave him a positive characterization.

On September 29, the site of Komsomolskaya Pravda in Belarus stopped opening in Belarus. The country’s Ministry of Information explained that the restriction of access to the resource is due to the fact that the site “contains a publication that contains information that contributes to the formation of sources of threats to national security.”
