TRENTO. Andrea de Bertoldi, a member of parliament for Fratelli d’Italia and a senator for the same party in the previous legislature, made official the decision, which had been in the air for some time, speaking of “dissension with the party line”, and therefore took the decision to resign from the parliamentary group of Fratelli d’Italia “with immediate effect”.

Below is the politician’s statement.

“When work resumes, I will make assessments together with my political family to identify my next allocation, which can only be based on the values of moderation and liberal Catholicism. My decision is the result of a long process of political dissent from the Party born to defend the reasons of my Autonomous Province of Trento from the desire for decision-making centralization of the party.

I have also repeatedly asked for clarity on some important issues, which as a Catholic are close to my heart, but I have not always seen the response I was hoping for. I have ventured to open a debate, which however has fallen on deaf ears. The only response has come from the probiviri, with an instrumental and unfounded investigation, on facts that I have already had the opportunity to clarify extensively.

Today I come to read that there would be an expulsion order. My political and professional freedom have allowed me a clear choice that can no longer be postponed. On this matter I am also ready to act in every appropriate place to protect my reputation and my personal and professional integrity”.
