On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, the debates at the Palais-Bourbon were a little lighter. “We are deeply in disagreement”: before the Assembly, the rebellious deputy Ugo Bernalicis defended with panache the right to privacy, seeking to exclude… Sex toys “snitches” in the investigations.

“You are going too far, you have no limits” and “are on a slippery slope in terms of surveillance”, launched the elected representative of the North to the Minister of Justice, to the laughter of the assistance. Being able to capture sound and images of the connected sexual object of a person under investigation, or geolocate via such an object: this is “not proportionate, especially when you see the length of the measurement, which can go up to 15 days,” he continued without blinking.

“Yes these connected objects also allow – unfortunately or fortunately, I don’t know – to film and take sound”, he insisted. “Minister Bruno Le Maire could provide us with a lot of details,” added his colleague LFI Andy Kerbrat, in reference to the recent work of the tenant of Bercy, which includes scenes with assumed eroticism.

“An amendment in bad taste”, for Dupond-Moretti

The deputies were debating a controversial article of the justice programming bill, which should allow, among other things, the remote activation of computers, telephones and other connected devices without the knowledge of the persons concerned, in investigations for terrorism, delinquency and organized crime.

The left is opposed to this device of activation, but did not obtain its suppression. Wishing to draw attention to the absence of “limits” laid down, Mr. Bernalicis therefore brought a “fallback” amendment in order to exclude sex toys. But “how can we have ideas like these”, dropped Minister Éric Dupond-Moretti, speaking of an amendment of “bad taste”.

“I don’t know what we can capture” like sound and images, he swept away. And to launch to Mr. Bernalicis: “Parliament deserves better than your usual circus”. The rapporteur Erwan Balanant (MoDem) tackled him “a fantasy amendment” from the LFI deputy. It was ultimately rejected by 119 votes to 30, with two abstentions.
