jpnn.comJAKARTA – Deputy Chairperson of the MPR Lestari Moerdijat encouraged the DPR leadership to immediately accelerate the process of discussing the Draft Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers (RUU PPRT) into law.

This is to realize comprehensive protection for millions of domestic workers from the threat of violence.

“The leadership of the Indonesian House of Representatives must expedite the legislative process to accelerate the discussion of the PPRT Bill into a law that is needed to protect millions of Indonesian domestic workers in Indonesia and abroad,” said Lestari Moerdijat in a written statement, Monday (5/8).

The National Domestic Workers Advocacy Network (Jala PRT) notes revealed that there were 3,308 cases of domestic worker violence from 2021 to February 2024.

The workforce in Indonesia’s domestic worker sector is dominated by women (84 percent of the total number of workers) and 20 percent of domestic workers are under 18 years old.

According to Lestari, these notes are actually enough to accelerate the process of the birth of the PPRT Law.

“Without adequate legal protection measures, millions of women and children are at risk of becoming objects of violence while earning a living,” said Rerie.

The legislator from Electoral District II of Central Java emphasized that the DPR leadership should immediately take strategic steps to provide comprehensive protection for domestic workers, who are predominantly women.
