Mr. Hilale: Morocco, a multi-millennial Kingdom, Algeria, a State created in 1962

by times news cr

Responding to fallacious, hateful and off-topic accusations against Morocco by his Algerian counterpart during the debate of the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly, Mr. Hilale explained that territorial integrity “is sacred for countries that already have a history, a civilization and a culture”, noting that a country like Algeria, born in the 1960s, cannot understand this principle.

The ambassador clarified that Resolution 1514 on self-determination, in its Article 6, enshrined territorial integrity. “But I note that my Algerian brother cannot understand the meaning of this principle of territorial integrity, because his country is barely 60 years old,” he stressed, noting that Morocco, on the other hand, has centuries behind it.

“The Moroccan state has existed for 12 centuries. The Moroccan state had ambassadors in European courts, in the 15th century and in the 16th century, where was Algeria? It did not exist,” the ambassador pointed out, insisting that territorial integrity is sacred for ancestral countries and cannot be assimilated by Algeria, created in the 1960s.

Reacting to the Algerian ambassador’s poor attempt to divert attention from his country’s responsibility in the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, Mr. Hilale noted that the Algerian diplomat “has become a master of illusion to camouflage the failure of the Algerian project to install a puppet republic in the Moroccan Sahara.”

And the Moroccan ambassador hammered home that another founding myth of Algeria’s separatist agenda is that of diversion, noting that Algeria resorts to this tactic to camouflage its responsibility in the Moroccan Sahara issue, the failure of its disastrous project, namely the creation of a puppet entity, as well as its destabilizing role in the Maghreb region. “This artificial conflict that it created has practically weighed down this Arab Maghreb Union,” he regretted.

In response to the Algerian ambassador’s remark that his country was mentioned 40 times in Morocco’s statement, Mr. Hilale retorted that Morocco “will always be there to denounce Algeria’s responsibility” in maintaining the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara and expose it before the United Nations, the 4th Committee and the Security Council.

“The Moroccan Sahara is definitively and irreversibly anchored in its Morocco. And Morocco is definitively rooted in its Sahara. The decolonization of the Moroccan Sahara is over,” concluded the ambassador, permanent representative of Morocco to the UN.
