The discussions also highlighted the positive role of the Moroccan community established in Italy, which constitutes a vector of human and civilizational rapprochement between the two countries, the press release continued.

In the area of the fight against terrorism, the minister recalled the Kingdom’s overall strategy which combines an anticipatory and repressive dimension against terrorist networks, as well as international cooperation through the exchange of intelligence, and a preventive approach against radicalization. This appropriate approach highlights the Kingdom’s major contribution to regional security.
On the migration front, he underlined Morocco’s holistic and humanist strategy in terms of migration governance, stemming from the High Royal Guidelines which place the migrant at the center of the actions of public authorities. He recalled the major efforts made by the Kingdom in terms of border control, the fight against human trafficking networks and against the unhealthy exploitation of the migration issue by certain non-state actors.
For his part, the Italian Minister of the Interior stressed that it is fundamental to maintain close synergy with the Kingdom of Morocco in terms of exchange of information to combat migrant smuggling.
To this end, the two ministers validated the establishment of a Permanent Mixed Migration Group (GMMP) which will make it possible to initiate qualitative and coordinated progress, taking advantage of synergies and reconciling sectoral logics around a global approach. and balanced migration management.
At the end of this meeting, Mr. Laftit reiterated to his Italian counterpart the desire of the Moroccan authorities to explore all means to strengthen the cooperation mechanisms falling within the remit of their respective departments.
