These talks were an opportunity to review the excellent historical relations between the leaders and peoples of the two countries, said a statement from the Second Chamber, adding that it was also a question of reiterating the common will to give new dynamics to bilateral relations and to strengthen them in various fields.

On this occasion, Mr. Mayara expressed his pride in the level of bilateral relations that has been reached, recalling the historical and symbolic weight that Madagascar occupies in the Royal family as well as in the collective memory of the Moroccan people.

He stressed that the consolidation of relations between the two countries is part of the strategic vision of HM King Mohammed VI, aimed at strengthening South-South cooperation and promoting the African continent at all levels.

After presenting the competences of the House of Councilors and its position in the constitutional structure, Mr. Mayara stressed the importance of parliamentary cooperation in developing bilateral relations, as well as the need to intensify coordination and consultation in all regional and international bodies.

For his part, Mr. Ravalomanana expressed his thanks for the warm welcome he received during his visit to Morocco, welcoming at the same time the development that the Kingdom is experiencing in various fields.

After highlighting the solidity of political relations between the two countries, the President of the Senate of Madagascar stressed the need to redouble efforts to ensure the strengthening of economic cooperation and the exploitation of all available opportunities and capacities.

He added that the two countries are called upon to give new momentum to their cooperation in the parliamentary field, by strengthening the mechanisms of consultation and dialogue, and by putting it at the service of issues of common interest.

In this context, he reiterated Madagascar’s full solidarity and continued support for the Moroccan character of the Sahara.

This meeting, the statement continued, was also an opportunity for the two sides to discuss the importance and challenges of the Parliamentary Conference on South-South Cooperation, organized by the House of Councilors, on the basis of a joint undertaking aimed at strengthening coordination and exchanging visions and experiences on current strategic issues. These include issues of development, economic transformation, trade, investment, technology, innovation and energy, health, food and water security.
