In this regard, Mr. Mayara recalled the unwavering support of Morocco and Moroccans for the Palestinian cause, noting that His Majesty King Mohammed VI places this cause on the same level as the issue of the Moroccan Sahara and territorial integrity.
“I do not need to recall and detail the efforts made by HM the King, as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, through the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency which has carried out many social, medical, educational and humanitarian actions to improve the social conditions of the population, support the resistance of the Maqdissis and the struggle of the Palestinian brother people against the occupation and the Israeli attempts to Judaize Al-Quds, deport its inhabitants and alter its Islamic and Christian civilizational heritage, in addition to the support of the Palestinian people for the establishment of their independent state with Al-Quds Acharif as its capital,” said Mr. Mayara.
He reiterated the Kingdom of Morocco’s commitment to the position expressed by His Majesty the King in his message to his brother, President Mahmoud Abbas Abou Mazen, to maintain the place of this cause at the same level as the national cause of Morocco, while continuing the Kingdom’s constructive commitment to establishing a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
Mr. Mayara reviewed the initiatives taken by the Houses of Advisors and Representatives in Morocco to defend the Palestinian cause in the various regional and international parliamentary meetings (Arab, Islamic, continental and international), as well as to confront all plots and stratagems targeting the legitimacy of the Palestinian cause, and support the creation of an independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state whose capital is Al Quds East.
He condemned the continuation by the Israeli occupation forces of their renewed attacks against the Palestinians by restricting freedom of worship, and carrying out continuous and unacceptable measures and attacks against the sanctity of the holy city, the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, the worshipers and those who were in the mosque during the last month of Ramadan, adding that these provocations were accompanied by an increase in the pace of access of Israeli extremists to the Temple Mount and its facilitation, in addition to taking measures aimed at imposing a reality that leads to the temporal and spatial division of the Temple Mount.
He stressed that this blatant aggression against Islamic and Christian holy sites constitutes a serious and flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, international legitimacy and the legal duties of Israel as the occupying power of Al-Quds Ashraf.
Mr. Mayara noted that this dangerous Israeli escalation in Al-Quds and in the Christian and Islamic holy sites is an integral part of the ongoing war against the Palestinian people and is a continuation of the policies aimed at Judaizing Al-Quds and its holy sites, the main one being the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, warning that this situation will lead to a further aggravation of the situation.
He called for immediate and urgent intervention by the international community to put an end to these attacks and impose full respect for the legal and historical status of Al-Quds and Al-Aqsa Mosque and other places of worship in occupied Al-Quds, and the need to guarantee freedom of worship for all.
He also called on the international community to assume its responsibility and act to counter the illegal Israeli policies and actions in the occupied city of Al-Quds, and to put an immediate and deterrent end to this aggression which leads to the creation of situations that threaten international peace and security, fuels extremism and encourages terrorist groups.
The Speaker of the House of Advisors continued that in light of these unprecedented and dangerous situations, “we have an urgent need, as Arab, Muslim and Christian parliamentarians, today more than ever, not only to adopt a firm stance and make efforts for appeasement, but the situation requires firmly defending anything that would affect these holy places, as well as seeking all means to stop all practices that target the Arab, Islamic and Christian identity of the city of Al-Quds.”
He stressed the importance of moving from rhetoric to action, innovation and launching initiatives that can influence the course of events in accordance with the interests of all Arab countries and their aspirations to achieve peace, security, stability and development.
He also called for intensifying regional and international efforts to restore and maintain general calm and relaunch serious and effective negotiations that restore confidence in the feasibility of the peace process and put it on the path to a negotiated solution based on the two-State solution.
The conference is held under the theme “Al-Aqsa Mosque and all Islamic and Christian holy sites are our first priority” and is attended by the presidents of Arab councils and parliaments.
It must be sanctioned by the publication of a final declaration on the latest developments in the Palestinian cause and the status of Islamic and Christian holy places.
