The team from Mato Grosso do Sul came in second place overall for teams at the event in Sapucaia do Sul

Mato Grosso do Sul came second in teams in the Brazilian Muay Thai and Muay Boran Championship. The event was hosted in the city of Sapucaia do Sul (RS) last weekend. The athletes returned with 11 gold and 7 silver medals.

Mateus Augusto Miranda, better known as Cebola, won the professional belt in the men’s 71 kg category. In addition to the belt, the athlete from Mato Grosso do Sul secured a place in the world championship, which will be held from February 2nd to 5th next year, in Bangkok (Thailand). This will be his first participation in the international competition.

In the other fight for the belt, in the under-100 kg category, was the athlete Iuri ‘Gordão’, who finished in second place, guaranteeing a place for the World Championship in Thailand as well. The technical team was composed of Lucas Mendes (Campo Grande), Rafael Moreira (Anaurilândia) and João Marcos (Selvíria).

According to the Traditional Muay Thai Federation of Mato Grosso do Sul, all medalists from Mato Grosso do Sul are classified for the world championship in Thailand. Mateus and Iuri will compete in the professional category and the others in the amateur category.

The event was held by CBMB (Brazilian Confederation of Muay Thai and Muay Boran) and had the participation of 250 athletes, from 14 federative units. The disputes took place in the sports hall of the Municipal Elementary School Alfredo Juliano.
