Since June 4, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) has kept the comprehensive health teams active in order to provide care in health centers, homes and 8 temporary shelters in the cantons of Esmeraldas, Atacames and Muisne, where currently around 452 families affected by the floods remain.

Jackson Gonzales Lara is one of those affected by the floods in Esmeraldas. He is temporarily housed with his family at the 10 de Septiembre Educational Unit in the Carlos Concha sector. He comments that these have been difficult days, but thanks to the timely intervention of the National Government they have been able to move forward.

He thanked the Ministry of Public Health for the permanent attention that all the families receive in that place, with psychological medical attention and the provision of medicine for their ailments.

In addition, the Ministry of Health in this province has deployed vector control teams who carry out fumigation work in shelters, inside and outside homes to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and destroy vectors that transmit dengue fever, malaria, among other diseases.

Health professionals carry out playful, recreational and emotional discharge activities on a daily basis with the purpose of making the stay in the different shelters more bearable.
