MSP will verify vaccination against polio, measles and rubella in Pichincha this August 5 and 6 – Ministry of Public Health

More than 250 professionals from the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) who will participate this August 5 and 6, 2023 in the Rapid Vaccination Monitoring session in the cantons of Pichincha, were trained in Quito.

Through a house-to-house visit, the vaccination status against poliomyelitis, measles and rubella will be verified in children from 1 to 12 years of age in the province of Pichincha. This activity will allow this State portfolio with the support of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) to quickly and immediately assess the proportion of those vaccinated in the province.

The training consisted in the development of the methodology to identify vaccinated children and those who received the additional doses of vaccine, with the objective of reaching a unified criterion, updated to the current vaccination campaign and decisive in the homes visited, the number of children found and the coverage obtained after the campaign, whose phase 2 concluded on July 31, 2023.

The monitoring is the third phase of the campaign for an “Ecuador free of poliomyelitis, measles and rubella”, a strategy undertaken since May 2, 2023, which consisted of the application of an extra dose of the double viral vaccines against measles and rubella. ;as well as the dose against poliomyelitis to protect the child population.

«The MSP managed to vaccinate more than 3.4 million boys and girls against polio, measles and rubella in the country in 14 weeks. In other words, 90% of the population from 1 to 12 years old”, highlighted Gabriela Aguinaga, Vice Minister of Health Governance. The authority added that the MSP asks parents and caregivers to show the vaccination card to health personnel.

Based on the results obtained in relation to the characteristics of the place, the coverage report will be issued for the purpose of Ecuador reporting the results of the 2023 follow-up campaign.
