BRASILIA (Reuters) – The CPI of the Chamber that investigates the actions of the Landless Workers Movement (MST) approved on Tuesday the summoning of the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, to provide clarification.

The summons — which, unlike an invitation, obliges the minister to attend the commission — was approved based on a request inserted in the agenda when the collegiate meeting was already in progress.

The request was presented by the rapporteur of the CPI, deputy Ricardo Salles (PL-SP), who was Minister of the Environment under former President Jair Bolsonaro.

Government supporters considered the summons “absurd” and considered that there was no reason to call Rui Costa, pointing out the lack of connection between the summons and the main object of the CPI.

This Tuesday, the CPI heard testimony from the former minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI) of the Lula Gonçalves Dias government.
