MTS launched a monthly smartphone rental service in partnership with Arenter startup. The newspaper “Kommersant” writes about this.
The project will be tested for the next six months in Moscow and the Moscow region, at this stage the service is extended to iPhone XR, 11, 12 and 13 for a period from one month to a year. The company will then decide whether to roll out the service in other regions and include other brands in the offer.
The amount of rent will depend on the smartphone model – for example, the iPhone 11 in the minimum configuration can be rented for a month for 4.2 thousand rubles, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max – from 8.9 thousand rubles. At the same time, MTS assured that customers will not be held responsible for minor defects that arise during use, such as scuffs and small scratches. From the description of the service on the company’s website, it follows that in some cases, in case of severe damage, an examination can be carried out, as a result of which the client will be deducted from 10 to 100% of the market value of the smartphone.
It is reported that smartphone sharing will soon be launched by MegaFon, and the service will be available in all regions of the country and will be applied to devices of any brand. Tele2 called the idea impractical.
Analysts interviewed by the newspaper do not expect high demand for the service and predict that smartphones will be rented for no more than a month to test new flagships.
